This recipe one of the rare dishes which does not use turmeric powder. It forms a good combo with 'morkootaan' and 'pulungari'.
Potatoes – ½ kg
Salt to taste
Grated coconut – 2-3 tbsp
Coconut oil – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Bengal gram dal – 1 tsp
Whole red chilli – 2 pieces
Green chilli – 2 – chopped fine
Ginger - 1 cm piece – chopped fine
Asafetida – ¼ tsp
Curry leaves – 7
Cut the potatoes in half.
Pressure cook with salt for 2 whistles. Cool. Drain off the water.
Peel the potatoes and gently mash them.
Heat oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds, Bengal gram dal and urad dal. When they crackle, add red chilli pieces, green chillies, ginger, asafetida and curry leaves.
Add the potatoes to it and add the grated coconut. Mix well and turn off the gas.
