Kalathu podi is adry powder which can be stored for a month or two. It will come handy on drydays - I mean if you are not in a mood to cook dinner after a heavy lunch or ifyou need just a little something to supplement the leftovers. You can mix thispowder with plain rice and ghee on your plate and eat it as the first smallcourse.
Ingredients
Yellow moong dal –½ cup
Pottukadalai(chutney dal) – 1 tbsp
Black peppercorns – 1 tsp
Whole red chilli –1small
Salt to taste
Method
Dry roast theyellow moong dal in a dry kadhai till light brown. Add pottukadalai, pepper corns and red chilli to it and roastfor 1-2 minutes.
After cooling,powder it along with salt in a mixer and store in a dry, clean bottle.
